VFD Panel Brands Compared: 10 Builders Worth a Look
Buying a VFD panel means choosing who builds it as much as which drive goes inside. Here are ten builders we'd shortlist — and what each is actually good at.

Buying a VFD panel is two decisions dressed as one.
The first is the drive—Siemens, ABB, Schneider, or whoever fits your plant. The second, and the one people skip, is who builds the panel around it. Same drive, two builders, and you can get a panel that runs for a decade or one that trips the day after commissioning.
So before you send an RFQ, here are ten VFD panel builders worth a look—and what each one is actually good at.

The shortlist at a glance
Builder | Drive platform | Best fit | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
Siemens | SINAMICS | Integrated TIA plants | Deep ecosystem, pricier spares |
ABB | ACS | Broad industrial, HVAC | Strong service network |
Schneider | Altivar | Building & process | Easy commissioning |
Rockwell / A-B | PowerFlex | North American plants | Logix-native integration |
Mitsubishi | FR series | OEM machinery | Compact, reliable |
Yaskawa | GA / A1000 | Motion-heavy loads | Drive heritage. |
Danfoss | VLT | Pumps, HVAC, water | Application-tuned |
Eaton | SVX / M-Max | Power distribution tie-in | Panel + protection |
Fuji | FRENIC | Cost-sensitive OEM | Solid mid-tier |
Delta | C2000 / MS300 | Asia-sourced budgets | Value, fast lead |
What each one brings
Siemens. If your plant already runs on TIA Portal, a SINAMICS-based panel drops in clean. The trade-off is cost and lead time on spares—budget for it.
ABB. The safe default for general industry. ACS drives cover everything from pumps to cranes, and the service footprint is hard to beat.
Schneider (Altivar). Where building management and process meet, Altivar panels commission fast, and the software is forgiving for younger techs.
Rockwell / Allen-Bradley. For North American plants on ControlLogix, a PowerFlex panel is the native choice. Integration is the selling point, not the price.
Mitsubishi. On OEM machinery, FR-series panels are compact and quiet. We build a lot of these—they're a workhorse.
Yaskawa. Motion-heavy loads—winders, spindles, cranes—are where Yaskawa earns its keep. Drive DNA runs deep.
Danfoss (VLT). Pumps, HVAC, and water treatment are its home turf, with application tuning baked in. Our VFD panel buyer's guide digs into the application side.
Eaton. When the panel needs to tie into broader power distribution and protection, Eaton's combo of drive plus switching gear is tidy.
Fuji (FRENIC). A sensible mid-tier pick for cost-sensitive OEMs that still want a name behind the drive.
Delta. Asia-sourced budgets where value and lead time matter. C2000-class panels punch above their price.
Buyer Decision: Don't rank these like a horse race. Rank them against your plant — drive ecosystem, spare-lead time, and who can actually build the panel to spec near you.

The builder matters more than the badge.
Here's the part the "top 10" framing hides: the drive is a commodity you can source anywhere. The panel is where projects live or die. A builder who botches the line reactor and harmonic filtering will cost you more than a premium drive badge ever saved.
When you evaluate a VFD panel builder, look at: - Short-circuit rating (SCCR)—does the panel carry a labeled rating, not a guess? - Enclosure discipline—zones, spacing, cable routing, not a cramped box. - Testing—do they FAT every panel, or just power it on? - Documentation—do you get a real schematic and BOM, or a PDF you can't read?

A note on where we sit
We're a sourcing partner and panel-build shop, not one of the manufacturers ranked above—so this is a buyer's view, not a sales pitch. We build panels around the drives our customers specify, including the names on this list, and we'll tell you straight when a premium badge isn't worth it for your load.

How to choose without overthinking
- Lock the drive ecosystem your plant already runs.
- Shortlist two builders who can build to spec near you or ship fast.
- Send the same RFQ to both—same SCCR, same enclosure, same FAT.
- Compare the panels, not the logos.

If the panel ships with a real schematic, a labeled SCCR, clean internal layout, and a FAT report, the drive badge is almost a footnote.
FAQ
Should I always pick the drive brand that matches my PLC?
Not always. Matching helps integration, but a panel built well around a different drive often beats a sloppy panel around the "matching" one. Compare the build.
Does the panel builder need to be the drive manufacturer?
No. Most panels are built by system integrators or panel shops around drives they source. What matters is the build quality and the SCCR label.
What's the biggest risk in a VFD panel RFQ?
Vague specs. No SCCR, no enclosure rating, no FAT requirement—three quotes for three different panels. Our checklist fixes that.
Which brand is "best" for pumps?
Danfoss VLT and ABB ACS are strong pump/application-tuned choices, but the panel build around them decides reliability more than the badge.
How fast can a VFD panel be built?
Component lead times run 3–5 days for common drives; a custom panel build is typically around 15 days from a clean drawing. Rush jobs cost more and risk rework.
Do I need a line reactor on every VFD panel?
Not every one, but more than buyers assume—long feeder runs and sensitive loads usually do. Our harmonic-filter guide covers when.
Buyer takeaway
The drive is the easy half. The panel builder is the decision that decides whether your VFD installation runs for ten years or trips next month. Shortlist on ecosystem and proximity, RFQ on SCCR and FAT, and compare the panels—not the logos.
