When a plant, water or infrastructure project needs low-voltage power distribution and motor control, the switchgear decision usually comes down to three numbers: main busbar rating, short-circuit withstand, and how fast a failed unit can be serviced. Drawer-Type or Fixed-Type: Which Switchgear Fits Your Plant?
Choose drawer-type construction (MNS, GCS or GCK) when the board feeds motors or process loads that must keep running while another circuit is serviced. Withdrawable units disconnect from the main bus, so a pump, fan or compressor starter can be isolated, pulled and replaced without de-energizing the whole section. GCS drawer units have clearly marked connected / test / disconnected / withdrawn positions with mechanical interlocks, and a single GCS section holds up to 11 unit drawers or 22 half-unit drawers - dense enough for motor control centers.
Choose fixed-type GGD boards for radial distribution where circuit changes are rare and first cost matters more than unit interchangeability: incoming and outgoing power and lighting feeders in one naturally ventilated board, with top, bottom or side cable entry.
Ratings, Construction and Options
GCK centers are built on a 20 mm modular frame and carry main busbar ratings up to 6300 A with short-time withstand up to 100 kA and peak withstand to 220 kA, using aluminium slide rails for the withdrawable units. MNS boards use an E=25 mm modular system with horizontal busbar from 1600 A to 4000 A and 50/80 kA short-time withstand. GCS boards rate horizontal busbar to 4000 A with vertical busbar at 1000 A. GGD fixed boards are produced in 15 kA, 30 kA and 80 kA short-circuit tiers at 380 V. Enclosure protection is IP30-IP40 (IP32 for GCK), and all families are designed to the IEC 60439-1 / IEC 439-1 and GB 7251.12 requirements.
Sections can combine incoming, bus-coupler and feeder compartments, and GCK boards can additionally be assembled as power-factor-compensation, metering and lighting distribution units. Drawer boards can be delivered as power centers (GCK) or motor control centers, with mechanical and electrical interlocks, position indication and optional auxiliary contacts.
What We Need to Quote Your Switchgear
Send us your single-line diagram and load schedule. To return a section layout, busbar rating and lead time, our engineers also need the site nominal voltage and earthing system (TN-S / TN-C-S / TT), short-circuit level if known, and whether future feeders must be added - if they will, specify drawer-type construction now.
Buyer tip: for motor control center duty, list motors by kW, starting method and duty class; for pure distribution, a fixed GGD board usually delivers the lowest installed cost.
